Author Visits for Central North Carolina Schools

The Value of an Author Visit

An author visit shows students that books are written by real people, and that reading and writing are skills they can grow into. When children and teens meet a real author, a name on a cover comes to life. That connection often sparks new enthusiasm for reading, builds confidence in young writers, and gives students a memorable look at how stories take shape.

Visits also support classroom goals in literacy, creativity, and public speaking. Because both series (The Cedar Hill Boys and The Chronicles of Daniel) are built around Biblical themes and the work of developing character to stand in culture, these visits are a natural fit for homeschool co-ops, private schools, Christian schools, and individual classrooms across Central North Carolina. Each session can be adapted to your group’s age range, schedule, and values, from a 30-minute classroom talk to a longer assembly-style presentation with Q&A

What You Can Expect

  • Interactive, age-appropriate presentations for middle-grade or high school audiences

  • Q&A time so students can ask questions

  • Options for classrooms, co-ops, library groups, and whole-school events

  • Books available for purchase and signing, if your school would like that

  • Content that is welcoming for homeschool, private, and Christian school communities

Five Visit Topics

  1. Solving the Mystery: How to Write a Whodunit (grades 3-7). Using The Cedar Hill Boys, students learn how mysteries are built from clues, red herrings, and surprises, then try planting clues in their own short mystery.

  2. Mentors Matter: The Guides Who Shape Us (grades 3-8). A look at the role of spiritual mentors in The Cedar Hill Boys and why every hero needs wise people in their corner. Students think about the mentors in their own lives and how stories use them.

  3. Standing When the Music Plays: Faithfulness in Babylon (grades 7-12). Drawing on Chronicles of Daniel, this talk explores what it looks like to hold onto your convictions when everyone around you is bowing to the crowd, and how character is built in small, daily choices.

  4. Bringing the Bible to Life Through Fiction (grades 6-12). How a writer researches ancient history, imagines the people behind Biblical accounts, and fills in the gaps while staying true to Scripture. Great for history, Bible, and writing classes.

  5. From Idea to Published Series (all ages, adapted to the group). A behind-the-scenes look at drafting, revising, editing, and publishing a book series. It shows that every story goes through many versions and encourages young writers to keep going.
